ABOUT
Andrew Gow is a British - Belgian portrait painter who has painted some of the most significant figures of our time — among them HRH Grand Duke Guillaume V of Luxembourg, for whom he completed the official state portrait, now hung in the Chamber of Deputies and exhibited at the National Museum of Luxembourg.
Over a career spanning more than two decades, Andrew has established himself as one of Europe's foremost portrait painters, sought after by heads of state, global industrialists, senior clergy, and distinguished private clients. His work hangs in private residences, corporate boardrooms, academic institutions, and the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican City.
His sitters have included figures of sovereign, ecclesiastical, and industrial authority — portraits that are not merely likenesses, but records of power, prestige and legacy intended to endure for generations.
What distinguishes Andrew's portraits is a balance of technical mastery and emotional sensitivity. Rooted in the traditions of the European Old Masters his work is at the same time unmistakably of the present. He paints living people, and what his sitters and their families consistently remark upon is the sensitivity he brings to the eyes and expression, that elusive quality of capturing not just how a person looks, but who they are. A finished Gow portrait feels simultaneously timeless yet fresh and alive.
Andrew studied in the United States, Florence, Paris, and London, and works from his studio in the Surrey Hills, travelling wherever his portraits are required.
He has exhibited with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, New English Arts Club and at the Saatchi Gallery in London. He is a member of the Chelsea Arts Club and The Royal Company of Archers — The King's Body Guard for Scotland.
Andrew accepts a select and limited number of commissions each year.
